Accommodations Policies for Public Comment through 5:00 pm ET on February 20, 2013

The twenty-two states comprising the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) sought comment from the public on a draft policy related to PARCC’s next generation assessment system:

  • The PARCC policy for providing writing access supports and accommodations, specifically for the use of a scribe and word prediction software for students with disabilities who meet the accommodation eligibility criteria on the English language arts (ELA)/literacy summative assessments

The draft accommodation policy represents part of a comprehensive set of policies PARCC intends to include in the PARCC Accommodations Manual scheduled for adoption later this spring. In 2013, the public will have had three opportunities to provide feedback on a draft PARCC Accommodations Manual: (1) Select Accommodations Policies for Reading Access and Calculators (January-February 2013); (2) Accommodations Policy for Writing Access (February 2013); and (3) Public Comment on the full PARCC Accommodations Manual (expected April-May 2013). The final PARCC Accommodations Manual is expected to be released in June 2013.

Please click (HERE) for the full draft accommodation policy for writing access for students with disabilities on the ELA/literacy summative assessments.

PARCC accepted feedback on the two draft policies listed above through 5:00 pm ET on February 20, 2013 via an online public survey.

The draft policy linked to above has been informed by current research, technical consult, and expertise from PARCC state leads. A sample of some of the supporting research will be posted shortly.
